American-born, T.S. Eliot is best known as an English poet, critic, and dramatist. His first major work of poetry was The Love Song of J . Alfred Prufrock (1915). His influential book of literary criticism, The Sacred Wood (1920) argued for the importance of literary history and artistic objectivity. In 1922 he published his revolutionary poem The Wasteland , welding ancient myth to modern urban life. His final major poetic work was Four Quartets (1943). Eliot also produced several poetic dramas, including Murder in the Cathedral (1935).
